Northern Neck Team Wins Big
in the Contender Cup!

It was the father, daughter and uncle team called “Reel Comfort” from the Northern Neck that scored big in the Contender Cup Striper Tournament held at the Bay Creek Resort Marina in Cape Charles, VA on December 20, 2008. Thirteen-year-old Jessica Oliff of Warsaw reeled in the winning 55.17-pound striper. She was real excited when her uncle Fred Jett netted her fish, but more excited when she realized that the fish helped her dad Matt Oliff’s team win $3200 in over all prize money, $1620 “$100 winner take all Calcutta” and $320 in “Chris Bait and Tackle small boat challenge under 23 feet.

Last years’ winner, Robert Hughes fishing his boat “Bigmama” from Henderson, North Carolina brought a 46.31-pound striper to the scale to finish second. Rick Handly of Hampton, VA and his Crew of “Split Decision” finished third with a 41.88-pound. Fourth place went to AJ Marchigiani also of Hampton, VA and his crew of “Sand Man 2” with a 41.65-pound fish. Rounding out the top five was Jamie Judy of team “Amazing Grace” also winning the “Chesapeake Angler Magazine live release division” with a fish that was 41.19-pounds.
