Contender Cup Rules

TOURNAMENT DATE: Saturday, December 22, 2007. Blow day will be 23 December 2007. Virginia Ocean waters and Virginia portions Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Anglers may depart from any port of their choosing.
ELIGIBLE FISH SPECIES: striped bass
REGISTRATION MEETINGS: December 21 2007 6:30 pm at Bay Creek Resort & Club Restaurant.
AWARDS CEREMONY: 22 December 2007 6:00 pm Bay Creek Resort & Club Aqua Restaurant.
WEATHER: Participants enter the Tournament at their own risk and discretion and accept full responsibility for boat, crew and anglers. There is NO "WEATHER COMMITTEE." Captain and crew must decide on each individual boat as to their participation and their boat capabilities to fish the day of the Tournament.

REFUNDS: In the event that there is no available fishing the day of the tournament or blow day due to an act of God or natural disaster, 70% of all entry fees and 100% of all skill level fees will be returned.
WEIGH-IN: FISH MUST BE BROUGHT TO OFFICIAL WEIGH-IN STATION BY BOAT DIRECTLY FROM FISHING BY WATER.

PROTEST: All protests concerning the determination of the tournament winners shall be made to the tournament director in writing, and shall be accompanied by a $300 cash deposit. All protests must be made no later than 15 minutes after the last fish has been weighed. If the protest is upheld, the $300 will be returned, otherwise, the $300 cash deposit becomes the property of the tournament.
FISHING HOURS:

No lines in the water before 7:00 am. All lines must be out of the water by 3:00 pm.

The Official Scales will be open from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. You must bring your fish to the Official Scales during this time.

All fish must be at an Official Weigh-In Station Scale by 5:00 pm. No fish can be weighed in after the deadline. It is the responsibility of each captain to have his catch at the scales by this deadline. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Captains and their crews are responsible for following all local, state, and federal fishing and boating laws during tournament hours. Any violation of these laws will disqualify your catch for the day of the violation.

Only one fish (striped bass) can be entered in per boat. Largest fish is determined by weight only. All boats are responsible for getting their fish to the weigh station under their own power and on the boat that caught the fish.

In the event of a tie in any segment of the tournament, the prize money will go to the fish entered in the earliest.

All fish will have an examination, externally and internally, as the Committee deems necessary.

Striped bass must be 34" minimum to be weighed-in. Fish will be measured from tip of nose to tip of tail to qualify for weigh-in.

All fish must be caught on hook and line in legal Virginia ocean waters and/or legal Virginia portions Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Anglers may depart from any port of their choosing.

Wire line is allowed as line or leader, dummy lines are permitted.

The Tournament Committee reserves the right to disqualify any boat at any time for a misrepresentation made on any application or registration form by any member of the boat. Any suspicious activity or unsportsmanlike conduct are reasons for disqualification. Any boat disqualifications are for the entire tournament and will cause the forfeiture of all tournament fees and prize money.

Each boat must prominently display the boat number issued. This number must be visibly displayed at all times during the tournament.

The Tournament Committee reserves the right to board any boat at any time for inspection. Refusal will result in disqualification. No uncleaned fish (tournament species) can be on the boat at the start of the tournament.

At no time is any tournament boat permitted to touch another boat, structure or land. If this rule is broken the entrants will be disqualified. Verified emergencies are accepted.

The final day to enter the Tournament will be Friday, December 21, 2007 7:00 pm.

The tournament is open to everyone - charter boat captains, professional fishermen, and recreational anglers.

Any and all prize winners must be prepared to submit and pass a polygraph test at the discretion of the Tournament Committee prior to receiving their prize.

Participants entering the tournament agree that all decisions made by the Tournament Committee shall be final and binding in any matter requiring their action.

One captain and/or crew member from each boat participating in the tournament is required to attend the Captain Meetings.

Fish shall not be mutilated in any way. It is the contestants responsibility to ice and maintain fish in good condition. Fish submitted to weigh master may be claimed by their owners as soon as they are weighed and determined not to be winners. Winning fish may be claimed by their owners after inspection by the Tournament Committee.

As participants in the 1st Annual Contender Cup Striper Tournament to be held in the Virginia ocean waters and Virginia portions Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries, knowing the risks and dangers involved in such activities and that any unanticipated or unexpected dangers may develop, agree to hold harmless, namely the Contender Cup, their assigns, lessees, agents, employees and directors, against and all claims, damages, demands, actions, costs and/or expenses by or on our behalf arising out of personal injury, property damage, and/or accidents incurred by use while engaged in the 2007 1st Annual Contender Cup Striper Tournament.

The Tournament Committee will make announcements every 30 minutes starting at 2:00 pm on VHF Channel 66.

ADVERTISER PRIZE: $1,000 bonus for the top weighing fish for a team or boat that is a paid advertiser in the December 2007 issue of Chesapeake Angler Magazine.

SMALL BOAT CHALLENGE:

$1,000 bonus for the top weighing fish, on a boat 23ft. or under based on state registration.
