Captain Dave Compton began writing for the Chesapeake
Angler Magazine in the October, 2001 issue. Since then over one
hundred of his articles have been published in the Angler Magazine.
Captain Daves other outdoors writing experience was for
many years the Saltwater Editor and columnist for another publication.
After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean
War period, Captain Dave graduated from Wilkes University having
earned a B. S. Degree in Business Administration. His long professional
career included such positions as Industrial Engineer, Manufacturing
Manager, Materials Manager, Director of Operations, and Director
of Administration.
Daves boating and angling career started
right after World War II. Hes boated and fished in freshwater
and saltwater ever since then. He was a long time member of the
Virginia Anglers Club and won many Club tournaments and species
awards. He obtained the Clubs rating of Freshwater Expert
Angler with the highest score ever achieved by a member.
In saltwater, Daves experience includes deep
sea angling from New Jersey to Florida for such species as Tuna,
Marlin, Dolphin, Wahoo, King Mackerel, Barracuda, Cobia, and the
like. His inshore species included Rockfish, Bluefish, Trout,
Spanish Mackerel, Flounder, Drum, Croaker, Spot and some others.
Captain Dave worked as a part time charter boat
mate in the Chesapeake Bay prior to his retirement from Central
Coca Cola Bottling Company in 1998. After retirement Dave started
his own charter fishing business upon receiving his USCG 50 Ton
Masters license. He took parties all over the middle and lower
Bay, Tangier Sound, and the tidal rivers.
In 2003 Dave founded the Northern Neck Anglers
Club with about 35 interested anglers. The Club grew to a membership
of 256 anglers at its peak. Dave has been the Clubs President
from the beginning. The Club is open to any interested persons
age 18 years and older and operates eight free members tournaments
