A Concept, A Magazine, A Work in Progress

On a cold windy day in February a handful of people gathered in Fleeton, Virginia to discuss the possibility of starting a new publication dedicated to fishing on the Chesapeake Bay. After a couple pots of coffee and a couple of hours of brain storming the Chesapeake Angler Magazine was born.

Going from the drawing board to the news stand has been a fantastic voyage for all involved. Starting out in a converted garage with two computers, a printer, image scanner, and a skeleton staff working on inspired adrenaline, the Angler finally came together on the weekend of April 25 (Ironically the first weekend of rockfish season).

Though we have come a long way since that day of bouncing ideas off one another last winter, the Angler still has a long journey remaining. We see it as a work in progress. Our goal is to provide complete fishing coverage of the Chesapeake Bay-- an area that has been virtually uncovered by larger sport fishing publications. Many may overlap this region but few offer uniquely Chesapeake Bay coverage.

We have started out with the basics. Tournament previews, boat and equipment reviews, fishing spots, regulations and other pre-season tidbits of information. This will evolve into coverage of the biggest tournaments, the bluefish and rockfish runs, the latest fishing techniques along with profiles of fish and fishermen of the Chesapeake.

Of course the first issue of the Chesapeake Angler would not have become reality without the support and foresight of our advertisers who showed confidence in the magazine when it was nothing but a concept on paper. With no track record and little assurance as to what the magazine would look like, these businesses came on board in support. Just as crew members of a christened ship are plank owners, so are our first advertisers in Chesapeake Angler Magazine. We encourage our readers to visit these businesses and show them the same support they have shown us over the past couple of months.

Because Chesapeake Angler Magazine is continuing to evolve we invite our readers to comment on our progress and lend their opinions on what they would like to see from the Chesapeake Bay's newest sport fishing magazine.
