Russ Bertino,
Director of the 2010
Annual Reedville Fishing Derby for
Smith Point Sea Rescue, announced the dates for the 2010 Derby.
June
11th & 12th have been selected for next years popular
Spring event.
The Derby,
hosted by Buzzards Point Marina in Reedville, has been a
tradition on the Northern Neck since its inception 27 years
ago. The
Fishing Derby pays out over $25,000 in cash prizes for catching
three
species of fish local to the area, namely, striped bass, bluefish
and
croaker. Because of the success of its introduction in 2009,
the Derby
within a Derby will allow fishermen to compete for additional
cash
awards. Prize categories continue for both female and youth anglers
as well.
Visitors to
the Derby enjoy not only the spectacle of large fish being
weighed in, but also to see the many vendors and food purveyors
who
participate in the event.
Saturday night's
live entertainment will be provided by The Janitors.
Smith Point
Sea Rescue, founded in 1973, is the only all volunteer,
